Drugs associated with addiction

Cannabis

Often the first drug that someone takes, cannabis has been used for different purposes in countries across the world for thousands of years. It has been used as a pain-killer, sleep remedy and for spiritual practice.

Cannabis was legal in most western countries until around a century ago, when it's usage became criminalized.

Users report it causing relaxation, euphoria and a lessening of anxiety. Users also report it making anxiety worse and it can cause serious mental illness in those who are predisposed to it.

Heroin

A derivative of opium, heroin is processed from opium in factories across the middle east and SE Asia.

The drug was originally developed as a non-addictive pain killer to replace opium, but it was soon discovered that the drug was actually more addictive than its opioid predecessor.   Users become very relaxed and can slip into a dream-like state.

The drug is a central nervous system depressant and can cause people to fall unconscious and stop breathing. It is also incredibly addictive

Fentanyl

Fentanyl is a drug which has been becoming more popular in Tennessee and the rest of the United States in the past decade. Like heroin, it is a synthetic opioid. It requires very regular redosing from addicts to stop them from going into withdrawal.

Fentanyl is even more dangerous than heroin due to it being difficult to cut due to its potency. It has led to a massive spike in opioid deaths recently.

LSD

A synthetic psychedelic drug which causes hallucinations and euphoria. Made popular in the 60s, the drug can help in consciousness expansion, but can also lead users on an incredibly scary bad trip.   Countless hippies lost their minds in the 60s from taking LSD.

Magic Mushrooms

A natural psychedelic which has been used for thousands of years. When picking magic mushrooms, it is important to know exactly which mushroom you are picking, as deaths have occurred from people who have picked and taken a mushroom that they believed to be a magic mushroom, but were in fact, poisonous.

Ecstasy

A drug which creates euphoria and feelings of oneness for those that use it. People often take ecstasy at parties so that they can dance for many hours.   The drug can raise heart rates to dangerous levels, so it is important that when dancing that you take breaks.

It is also important that when taking Ecstasy, you replenish water that you lose, as ecstasy can raise your body temperature.

Cocaine

Cocaine is a very popular drug in the United States. Users report feelings of power and energy, but the experience is short-lived and often leads to a very unpleasant comedown.   Cocaine's addictive nature leads users to repeated redosing and cocaine's effects on the cardiovascular system can lead to heart attack.

Crack Cocaine

Crack Cocaine is a derivative of cocaine which is smoked. Users report an extremely short-lived high followed by a very unpleasant comedown and cravings for more of the drug.   The drug flooded the streets of the United States in the 80s, in a time known as the "crack epidemic".   Crack cocaine users quickly become addicted to the drug.

Crystal Meth

Crystal meth can be snorted, smoked or injected. The drug is a long-lasting stimulant who's positive effects come with some very unpleasant side-effects, such as paranoid, anxiety, and formication, which is the feeling that bugs are crawling under your skin.

Ketamine

Ketamine is a depressant which is often referred to as a "horse tranquillizer", although it is also used in hospitals.

Ketamine makes those who take it spaced out. If a great deal of ketamine is taken, ketamine users can fall into a "k hole", in which they are no longer aware of their surroundings.

High doses of ketamine over a long period of time have been known to damage the bladder of users. In some cases, this leads to the bladder being removed.
